The Schweinfurt Art Association was founded in 1986 as the Friends of the Municipal Art Collections. From its very first day, it has been dedicated to shaping Schweinfurt's cultural landscape in a lasting way. Following a vote of its members in 1992, it became the present-day Kunstverein Schweinfurt e.V.

Its 40th anniversary provides the occasion for the jubilee exhibition BestOf40, which presents significant works from the association's own collection. The exhibition revisits highlights from past exhibitions while also showcasing emerging artists whose work deserves discovery. It looks both to the past and toward the future. After all, the Kunstverein does not feel 40 years old—it feels 40 years young!

The exhibition runs July 19 – November 29, 2026, in cooperation with the Kunsthalle Schweinfurt, in the lower-level exhibition space known as the "Kreuzgang" (Cloister). Spanning nearly 400 square meters, it is the most comprehensive exhibition in the history of the Kunstverein.
